KA Space is much more than a fashion boutique. In fact, co-owner Ashley King Allwood corrected me when I described it as such."It's really a creative space, not a fashion boutique," Ashley tells me. "It's a live retail experience where all your senses are taken care of."
Ashley runs the space with her partner Kevin Allwood, who's a fashion designer, art director and photographer. The pair relocated from Montreal, where Kevin made and sold his NEVIK brand of clothing. They settled in Leslieville because, Ashley told me, they loved the neighbourhood's "artistic entrepreneurship spirit."
Ashley characterizes KASPACE as a "concept shop" that serves as an extension of KA Magazine, an annual "holistic luxury" publication created by Kevin in 2009. 
While there are a few racks of clothing here, KA Space feels more like a gallery or art exhibition than a fashion store. 
To the right of the entrance, there's a series of black-and-white photographs by artist Ted Witek. 
Near the back of the room, a looped video of a twirling ballerina is projected onto the wall. It's part of Kevin's multimedia art exhibit, "The Audition," the subjects of which are three prima ballerinas.
All that having been said, there are, in fact, garments for sale. The store only carries the KEVIN ALLWOOD line, which Kevin designs and creates in his own sewing studio just down the street. 
The line consists of monochromatic women's wear. The fabrics are organic and ethically-sourced from here in Canada and from Italy. Stocks are limited; there are only 50 items per style. 
Kevin also designs custom evening wear, which he can design for you if you book an appointment.
On top of making art and clothing, Kevin also has his own line of all-natural self-care products called "KALIFE". You can purchase his bath salts, "Holy Grail" cream and an essential oil-infused moisturizer in store or online.
